Summary |
"Chester Gould came from a two-room cabin in the Oklahoma Territory and became one of the most successful comic strip artists in America. His creation - Dick Tracy - sold millions of papers for the Tribune Syndicate and spawned movies, radio shows and merchandise. Gould was a driven man an dremained at the top of his game for nearly half a century. His peers admired his artistic style. Avant-garde artists like Andy Warhol and Robert Crumb were also among his fans. This film explores the artistic and personal life of Gould including exclusive family archival material and interviews with prominent artists including Crumb, Max Collins (Road to Perdition), Dick Locher (Pulitzer Prize recipient and Dick Tracy artist/writer) and many others. His strip paralleled and reflected American culture throughout the decades. Gould also introduced numerous technical innovations, like his famous wrist radio, that were far ahead of their time. Like today's TV crime shows, Chet's law enforcement strageties made there way into real life police methods."--Cover. |
